(v.23-10-11 Rev.2) UK or US date format?
There is a date that appears in the text: 23-10-11
Should we keep this as UK format, or change it to US format?
Another complication here is that it appears as part of a document name, which may be considered a proper name.
Any ideas?

Another trick. Crucial that we define this.

I thought about this, and I would agree that if this was a title, or the name of a document as such, I would not translate it, BUT, in this case it makes reference to a a procedure that was written up on a date (Oct. 23, 2011), in its second revision.
That is why I would be of the opinion to translate the date.

I think that in these situations where there is a form or law that is named with a date, my instinct as a researcher is to leave the name the same as source in the event that the person reading the translation wants to access that document electronically or even physically. It is going to be "filed" under the source format. We could argue this on the Delivery Notes.

Also, we are clear on this being US English, no?
I have an American flag on my Trados file format

Do you mean "write it as Oct. 23, 2011"? I think this looks ok, but i'm not sure that the style guide would approve of it.
In the style guide, they indicate how to format "all-number" dates for US or UK standard, and they also define how to format the "written" date formats for US and UK.
But they don't mention that you can switch from an "all-number" format to a "written" format. (23-10-11 = Oct 23, 2013).
In any case, we still don't know if the translation needs to be in US or UK date format. I know that the client is in London, but we might want to confirm with Jeff.

I think Gabriel has a good idea here. If we argue that the date should be left as-is, as part of a document name, than we also avoid the US/UK issue on this one...

Now that we know that it's UK english, I think we should leave the date as-is:
(v.23-10-11 Rev.2)
As for the v. and Rev.2, that's debatable...
Any ideas?

I think we should leave "as is" for the simple reason that if the reader wants to retrieve the doc it won't help if we put "version 23/10/11 Revised 2"
And we should indicate that in the Delivery Report
That is to say, the date itself is not as important as information as the format for retrieval. I want that form to give to my patients for the purpose of consent, the date is secondary or even irrelevant. The same with the Royal Decree. All these decrees are dated for the sake of reference and retrieval foremost

Works for me!
(v.23-10-11 Rev.2) = (v.23-10-11 Rev.2)
(v.23-10-11 Rev.2) = (v.23-10-11 Rev.2)
